The 180-day absence rule — the most common ILR mistake

This trips up more applicants than anything else. To keep your continuous residence, you must not spend more than 180 days outside the UK in any rolling 12-month period — not per calendar year. The Life in the UK Test and English requirement

Most applicants must pass the Life in the UK Test (a computer-based test on UK history, culture and values) and prove English at B1 level — usually through an approved test or a degree taught in English — unless they're exempt (for example, on grounds of age or a long-term condition).
